A Change In Format

Due to changes in my life schedule; an increased workload for school, trying to get ahead on editing episodes, and working on other projects for the podcast, I am putting World Building Wednesday on hold. I may still do posts for world building, but they will be less frequent and structured. If you're interested in the world of Erylia, make sure to follow us on World Anvil.

Gourselks

Ah. The mighty gourselk. You may have been wondering about them if you read the short story, Cassien’s Dishonor, a few weeks ago. Gourselks are a creature that I actually created on the fly for that story. The gourselk is a staple creature of the underdark and is largely docile. When I created it, the gourselk is essentially the cow of the drow.

Due to the work I am doing right now to get ready for the Erylian Epic launch, catching up on Patreon content, and also being in a more taxing class this quarter, I will be doing some shorter World Building Wednesdays. This one is one I had already done most of the work for in my DM Journal. This week is another piece of botany I have worked on for Erylia, though unlike bloodthorn, this is one isn’t a drug with mechanics attached to it.

World Anvil

This week isn’t going to be a post that’s actually about the world of Erylia. Instead, this post will be more for other world builders that don’t already know about this tool. As the Dungeon Master for Adventures in Erylia, I have come to absolutely love online tools to help make my work easier, more organized, and most importantly, digital. We have adopted Dungeon Fog for making battle maps, D&D Beyond for character management, and now I am testing out one for world building.

Ny’Vae’Rehl

I’ve been wanting to get to this post for a long time. Ever since the plot line of the Mieveht Story had its course set. With this week’s episode, An Emotional Encounter, I can finally post about the Nailo Family and their history without it skewing the story. I’m also doing something for the first time this Wednesday. Cassien’s history will be told through a narrative story instead of the more technical tone these posts have taken so far.

We’ve Been At This For A Year!

So thanks to a little Twitter notification telling me the Adventures in Erylia Twitter account is 1 year old, I realized we’ve been doing this for a year now! We don’t have any big anniversary plans right now, because I tend to consider our relaunch the new anniversary for the show. However, I was still pretty excited to see that we’ve actually been doing this for a full year now. To us, we’re just some friends who get together once or twice a month to play dungeons and dragons with some microphones in front of us.

Building a City

This week I’m going for something a bit different. Instead of the more narrative focused World Building Wednesday’s that I’ve been doing so far, this is a bit more instructional. If you’ve been reading for the narrative, this probably won’t do much for you. For this week, I’m going to outline how I, at this point in time, go about building a City.

The Week of Excuses, Expanded

A few weeks ago, I was falling behind on things. It started with being behind on editing an episode, and that followed to not having anything written for World Building Wednesday. From that, The Week of Excuses was born. It was originally a pretty tongue in cheek statement to explain not having content on time, but I decided to run with it. At the end, I said that when I got to the calendar building portion of things, The Week of Excuses was totally going to be a thing.

Something Different – D&D Tools in Alpha

When I originally started to use this website as a blog as well, it wasn’t really my intention to only ever do the World Building Wednesdays. But alas, with a family, a full time job, and a podcast to edit, finding the time for that has been difficult. Aside from the world building, I will probably never have a consistent blog schedule, but I want to start fitting more in. For today, there are some tools I am in the alpha for that I wanted to write about.

Early Stages of the Erylian Calendar

I made a calendar for Erylia pretty much back when I started working on it. It’s not very good and I never really did anything with it once I had the base started. I decided that it is time to start working on it. Not only because I want to start thinking up holidays and festivals (and the week of excuses), but the cycle of time should be important to the story as well.

Bloodthorn

This week for world building Wednesday, we’re dialing down to something smaller scale. My intent when I started these wasn’t to have every post be as long as they have been. However, it was kind of necessary to be able to lay the foundation for future world building. This week, we will take a look at the first bit of botanical world building I have done.

I Need To Rant – Upcoming Changes to Patreon

This post is not the norm here, but as a creator and a supporter on Patreon, I feel pretty strongly about this. This week, Patreon announced an upcoming change that I feel is the end of it’s use for a small creator like me. This change is set to go live on the 18th, and if they don’t chose to revert it by then, I will be looking at other options for supporting the show.

Syvahl, Erylia’s First Land

So far, world building Wednesday has been pretty all over the place. Today, continues that trend! I’ve been trying to tackle things in what I feel was their most important order. In Dungeons & Dragons, the gods are tied to so much, so they needed to be introduced early, in case they played a part in future posts. Characters dying is a very real possibility, so my unique take on how death would work needed to be explained before it happened. Mieveht is the city that is home to the first arc, so I needed to get some of its scale and interconnectivity laid out.

The Week of Excuses

I feel like this week really has become an week of making excuses. It’s early Wednesday now, and the episode that was supposed to come out on Monday still isn’t finished. If you missed that and are curious about it, I wrote about it on Monday, you can read it here. Really, I should have seen this coming. I’m behind on the episode, which means I’m behind on the week, which means now that World Building Wednesday is here, I am behind on that. If you’re interested in depth on the excuses for it all, read Monday’s post.

Fleshing Out Erylia's Gods

This is a long one guys, so get ready for a read. Though before I delve into each of the gods and some of their individual lore, I wanted to state that like with my original attempt at The Daghdha, some of this may change over time. Also, there are quite a few topics left open after covering the gods that I want to get to later. Namely, more about the realm of Caelistra aside from the gods, but also building up lore and stats for each of their weapons. However, before getting to those, my plan for next week is more about the grand city of Mieveht. With that out of the way, enjoy the read, and if there are any questions, please ask.
