Dragon Talk is the official podcast of the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast, hosted by Greg Tito and Shelly Mazzanoble. The main content of the show is an interview with someone from the D&D community, but the show is also used to share news for Dungeons & Dragons. There is also a rotating segment featuring differenti people who work on Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards.
Lore You Should Know - The host(s) talk with Chris Perkins about different pieces of lore within the “cannon” D&D universe. These segments often involve lore for upcoming or recently released products, but they are an amazing source for inspiration. Every time I hear this segment I want to sit down and start taking bits and pieces of what I hear and incorporate them into the world of Erylia.
Sage Advice - The host(s) talk with Jeremy Crawford about different mechanics in D&D. This segment is actually what got me to start listening to Dragon Talk. While looking up rules interactions, it is very common to run in to the Sage Advice column, and from there I found this show. For the most part, the rules that Jeremy ends up talking about are simply an interpretation of the rules, but if you are going to seek interpretations on rules, why not seek them out from the lead rules designer.
Random Character Generator - The host(s) talk with Kate Welch and design a random character using D&D Beyond. Inspiration is abound. Every time they get together to do a Random Character Generator segment you can leave with not only a randomized set of stats, but often a back story and motives. This is a great way to get inspired to create a new NPC for your home games, or to further expand on their discussion and flesh out the character to play yourself.
Interview - The hosts interview all different kinds of people from the D&D community. This segment is so varied depending who is invited on, but some examples of their guests include podcasters, artists, third party content creators, game developers, and even other members of the Dungeons & Dragons team. This is a great way to get exposed to other content that is being made related to D&D.
Update August 2024
Unfortunately, Dragon Talk appears to have ended in July of 2023. Oddly, this was shortly after Greg and Shelly released their book titled "Welcome to Dragon Talk." Based on a little bit of trying to find out what happened to the show, the best I can come up with is that they didn't necessarily plan on it ending, which is probably why we never got any sort of farewell episode and the show just stopped releasing new episodes. Through some internet searching, I was able to find Greg basically confirming that the show is over.
