Life Changes Mean Content Changes
So I have a bit of news for you all. I plan to put this into the next Behind the Screen in August, but this is something big so I wanted to get it out early. If you’ve talked with me in our Discord or over Twitter, or anywhere really, you would know that I work nights. I’ve worked nights for the last roughly 7 years. I’ve basically worked nights my entire life. Generally, all of my content production has been happening on the weekends, late at night, or in sprints after I get home from work. That all changes this week.
I was told at the end of last week that I would be finally moving to days. This is something I have been trying to make happen for years. At the end of last year, I was told it would be happening this year, but things weren’t anywhere near ready to set anything in stone. A few weeks ago, I was told it was time. I was given a few weeks to train up some people to replace me, and I was told that in mid July I would make the switch. Then on Wednesday, I was called in again and asked if Monday would work. This weekend has been spent reworking my sleep schedule, and last night we recorded our first session of the Erylian Epic - Arc 2, which will be 2 episodes worth! This is meaning I also need to take a whole new look at how I fit in content creation.
You may have been following my blog releases in tandem with the Project Deios reveals. It is a little bitter sweet to me that things are happening at this moment in time. I have been getting pretty close to the guys over at DungeonFog who are behind Deios as well as the community there. I have enjoyed working on my blog writing for these reveals. It was fun writing for a project I am super excited for. I missed last Monday’s release due to a busy weekend getting our episode ready. Sadly, I will be missing this release as well. I am hoping that I can find some time this week to fit in some content creation, with spending next weekend working on audio editing.
Ultimately however, this change is good for me. It is good for my wife and our kid. It means I am home for them during the week, and awake for them more during the weekend. I am just going to have to take some time to figure out what the new balance for things will be. On the plus side, as you guys will hear in the upcoming Nightwatch, as well as the Behind the Screen, we were already planning to be on hiatus for August, since everyone is going to be out of time for most of the month. Also, something Caitlin and I have wanted to do will probably be coming up in the next few weeks. We have tossed the idea around with each about streaming some single player games together, but timing for that has been difficult. We are hoping to set up a streaming schedule of probably 2 hours once or twice a week of either solo games, group games together, or games with the whole cast.
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
~Damian, the DM
